How is filament use calculated?

Multiply your model’s solid volume by an effective solid fraction (infill % plus a wall/support allowance), then by the material density — PLA is about 1.24 g/cm³, PETG 1.27, ABS 1.04. Add a small wastage margin for purge and skirts. A 50 cm³ model at 20% infill in PLA uses roughly 20–25 g, about 7–8 m of 1.75 mm filament.

What should I charge for a 3D print?

Add your material cost (grams ÷ 1000 × price per kg), machine time (print hours × your machine rate), labor (prep + post-processing hours × your rate), and electricity (printer watts ÷ 1000 × hours × price per kWh). Add a small failure buffer on consumables, then apply your margin. Our print-pricing calculator itemizes all of this.

How does consignment work?

Local makers can apply to have Forgely display and sell their prints at our Roy and Murray, Utah stores. Apply with a short description of your work and we’ll follow up about display space and terms. Revenue split and pricing are set case by case.

How do I get featured on the Maker Space page?

Apply with your display name, city, a one-line bio, links, and a real photo of your work. Approved makers with an active featured-slot subscription (from $5/mo) appear in the featured directory. Every profile is reviewed before it publishes — no AI-generated imagery.

How We Estimate

Both calculators are deterministic — the same inputs always give the same estimate, with no guesswork hidden. Here is the method they use, so the math is usable even before you touch a slider.

Filament grams: Effective solid fraction (infill % + wall/support allowance) × model volume × material density, plus a wastage margin. Density: PLA 1.24, PETG 1.27, ABS 1.04 g/cm³.
Filament length: Grams ÷ density gives volume; divide by the filament cross-section (π r²) for 1.75 mm or 2.85 mm to get meters.
Suggested price: Material + machine time + labor + electricity + a failure buffer on consumables, then your margin applied once.
